Art Students League’s Linea Journal Goes Digital!

Linea
, the full-color journal tabloid of The Art Students League of New York is going to the web! CJPW has printed and mailed Linea and other art journals and catalogs during more than a decade of partnership. This long-standing relationship, as well as our sensitivity to and understanding of the arts, were key contributing factors to the League’s choice of CJPW for this project.

The projected goal is to transform Linea into a digital eZine designed to evolve into a totally new distribution channel for “The Art Students League of New York.” To do this CJPW has assembled a team of professionals, led by CJPW creative director Craig Maher, that will work in concert to ensure a successful transition from print to web.

To accomplish this we encouraged the League to conduct a series of focus interviews with students and instructors, past and present (Phase I/Discover & Define), to determine their viewpoints on the existing Linea publication and its imminent conversion to the web.

The comments received from these interviews were invaluable and helped form a clear outline for the development of the remaining phases of the project.

Phase II/Design brings into focus the concept and graphic elements of color, type and layout based on research from Phase I. Phase III/Develop and Deploy involves both programming and site construction based on the approved design concept from Phase II.

The make-over to web will bring many new and dynamic attributes to the on-line Linea Journal in addition to expanding its reach well beyond the limitations of a printed publication. More images, the inclusion of interactivity, video and slide presentations will increase subscriber interest and invite a new and exciting dialogue between the League and its readers.

The Art Students League Linea Journal eZine is slated for a Fall 2012 debut.
